Fall Bridal Trend Prediction #2 from New York Fashion Week 2010

The Mercedez Benz New York Fashion Week closed on February 18th, leaving us with endless possibilities for what may come to the wedding market this Fall.  Last week, I revealed my first of several predictions as to how this Fall's bridal trends will be affected by New York's runway:  boning.  This week, the focus is a bit further south.

Fall Bridal Trend Prediction #2 - Gathered Skirts

How do we know which trends are most likely to catch on like wildfire?  When more than one designer is using it!  Here, Monique L'huilier, Diane Von Furstenberg and Vera Wang all utilize bunched layering and gathers in their skirts on the runway.  Fluffy, full and fierce, gathered and layered skirt elements are eye catching and bring dimension to the gown as well as draw the eye downward so as to create the illusion of added length.  (So, if you a shorter torso, this is a quick way to lengthen your overall frame.)  This fall, watch for ballroom gowns covered in fabric flowers and feather-like whisps as well as form-fitting dresses with layered organza, cotton, lace and silk.

How do you make this trend 'green'?  Avoid gowns made with genuine feathers and look for layering crafted of eco fabrics, such as peace silk and organic cotton.
